El genio de la lámpara

Los periódicos malasios son más aburridos que las instrucciones de una batidora, pero en raras ocasiones también llevan artículos fantásticos. Leí dos piezas el pasado 12 de octubre en New Straits Times sobre la magia negra y los genios o yinn, aquellas criaturas popularizadas por el cuento de Aladino en el libro de "Las mil y una noches".
Las autoridades malasias han declarado la guerra a los curanderos o bomoh no oficiales o que practican magia negra porque sus malas prácticas acarrean disputas y dramas en matrimonios, familias y colegas de trabajo. Por el contrario, los curanderos oficiales están registrados en una especie de colegio médico y sus prácticas se ajustan al Corán y el islam.
Otro artículo explicaba el caso de una niña de la provincia de Terengganu, en el norte del país, quien se desvanecía en medio de la noche para aparecer en árboles, tejados o cementerios a varios kilómetros de su casa. La pequeña nunca recordaba nada tras estos periplos paranormales. El culpable era un travieso yinn, por lo que la familia llamó a unos curanderos para que se deshiciera del molesto invitado.
La noticia venía ilustrada con una foto con el árbol donde la niña se vio teletransportada en una de sus noches paranormales.


Pero los exorcistas no sólo no eran colegiados sino también unos chapuzas porque lo único que hicieron es dejar sueltos hasta 12 genios o yinn por la vivienda familiar. Tuvo que intervenir tres bomoh de la Fundación Islámica de Terengganu que consiguieron atrapar a los yinn en recipientes sellados. Moraleja: "si unos genios pícaros rondan tu habitación, llama a un curandero con licencia".
No todos los genios son unos cabrones, también los hay generosos con los seres humanos. Según el Corán, Alá creó a tres tipos de seres: humanos, ángeles y yinn. Los humanos fuimos fabricados a partir de la arcilla y los genios a partir de fuego sin humo. Hay genios buenos y malos, musulmanes o no creyentes y pueden hacerse visibles o invisibles ante nosotros. Satán era un yinn que desobedeció a Dios y el propio rey Salomón contaba con varios genios como asesores. Así cualquiera.

THE GENIE'S LAMP

Malaysian newspapers are more boring than a blender's manual instructions, but sometimes they also contain fantastic articles. Last October 12^th I read two pieces in News Straits Times about black magic and genies or jinns, those creatures popularized by Aladdin´s tales in the book “One Thousand and One Nights.”

The Malaysian authorities have declared war on unofficial healers or bomoh that practice black magic because their bad practices provoke disputes among married couples, families and work colleagues. On the contrary, official healers are registered in a sort of medical council and they work accordingly to the Koran and Islam.

Another news article talked about a case in Terengganu province, where a girl who vanished after dusks ended up in strange places such as treetops, roofs and cemeteries kilometers away from home. The child could never recollect these paranormal trips. Some jinns were to blame, so the family called some healers in order to get rid of such annoying guests.

The article had a picture with a tree on which the girl was found on one of his paranormal nights.

Not only the exorcists were not official, but they were so lousy that instead, they left 12 genies or jinn around the house. Then, three bomohs from the Religious and Information Committee had to intervene to capture and keep the jinns in a sealed container. The moral of the story: “If some naughty genies hang around your room, call an official healer”.

Not all jinns are a are such bastards, there are also some who are nice to human beings. According to the Koran, Allah created three beings: humans, angels and jinns. We, humans, were fabricated from clay and jinns from smokeless fire. There are good and bad genies and they can appear visible or invisible at will. Satan is a jinn who disobeyed God and King Solomon had genies under his service. ¡Lucky him!
